Baking at Acacia Hotel

The Little Cookees club for Grades 1 to 3 and the Chef de Partie club for Grades 4 to 6 had a joint culminating activity at Acacia Hotel on February 26, 2017. The club members not only witnessed a baking demonstration by the hotel’s professional chefs, but also got the chance to have a hands-on baking session in the hotel.

Each member of Chef de Partie was partnered with a member of Little Cookees. Together, they learned how to make chocolate and vanilla cupcakes. They were taught the basic skills in baking, including the proper way of beating and cracking eggs; mixing dry and wet ingredients; the uses and flavors of different ingredients; and the proper way of doing accurate measurements.

Aside from baking cupcakes, the girls also prepared their own healthy hamburgers where they were encouraged to add vegetables to their burgers! When all the food preparation was done, they partook of the snacks that the hotel served.  The girls put into practice what they learned during the fine-dining workshop they had in a previous club meeting. Special thanks to Woodrose alumnae, Jill San Juan-Singian (Class 1999) and Carms Hernandez (Class 2002) for teaching the girls all about good manners and table etiquette.

By holding the activity in Acacia Hotel, the club members were also exposed to possible careers in hotel and restaurant management. More importantly, they learned the value of patience, dedication and hard work to be able to create those sweet surprises! It was a wonderful way to cap the year for The Little Cookees and Chef de Partie!
