In Memoriam: Dr. Adoracion Tañega

Please pray for the eternal repose of the soul of Dr. Adoracion Tañega who passed away on December 12, 2017, feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Her body lies in state at Tanglaw Center, 54 Examiner St., Quezon City.

Dr. Tañega was among the first batch of students of the University of the Philippines College of Medicine after the Second World War and graduated in 1955.  She then took up her specialization in child and adolescent psychiatry at the John Hopkins University Hospital in the United States and became the first child and adolescent psychiatrist in the Philippines.  She taught Psychiatry for a time at UP PGH; worked as a private practitioner at Clark Air Base; and later on, served as a consultant for the Psychiatry Department of the Philippine Children’s Medical Center.

Dr. Tañega also served as a part-time consultant for PAREF Woodrose School from 2000 to 2010.  We are grateful to her for being instrumental in setting up the school’s Guidance Center and for training our guidance counsellors and personal formation mentors.
