Substance and Behavior Addiction

Considering the dangers and challenges that our youth faces today, Grade 6 students had the opportunity to listen to a very relevant talk on Substance and Behavior Addiction. The guest speaker, Dr. Bienvenido M. Leabres, is the Head of the Treatment & Rehabilitation Center of the Department of Health located in Bicutan. He shared that addiction is no longer limited to illegal drugs. He provided the students tips on how to avoid the addiction trap and encouraged them to be mindful of their use of the internet, both in social media and video games.

Grade 6 students shared their reflection on the interesting topic. According to Claudine Castro, the talk was “greatly educational, meaningful, and most of all, very appropriate for our age group…and through this, our minds were opened to the reality around us.” Hee Won Lee said, “I was able to know why people take drugs…I will be more cautious and tell those around me.” Gwen Antonette Quin also “learned how it affects our nervous system and comprehend why it is truly harmful to our body.” In the end, Pauline Calma said, “Dr. Leabres made me more aware of my surroundings…I am thankful to him for teaching us to be better women for a better future.”
